History

The station launched in 1991 as DWLR, The station was previously owned by Ultrasonic Broadcasting System, owner of 106.7 Energy FM under the name 1494 K-LOVE managed by Manny Luzon, playing some love songs and oldies. In 1995, it changed its callsign to DWSS and its time slot was sold to blocktimers, despite still playing automated love songs and oldies.

In 2004, The Vera Group, through Supreme Broadcasting Systems, acquired DWSS. Under new ownership, the station moved its studios from SYSU Building in Quezon City to Paragon Plaza in Mandaluyong City to share facilities with Mellow 947 and DWBL 1242 (both Mellow, DWBL and DWSS shared its studios in Unit 908), Magic 89.9 and 99.5 RT. Currently, DWSS is part of The Radio Partners, Inc. (The talk blocktimers, however, are managed by sister company FBS Radio Network).

In 2010, DWSS began broadcasting worldwide via audio streaming DWSS 1494 in this site.

During the 1st half of 2011, every night (6pm-10pm), it aired Family Radio in Tagalog except for 6-7pm slot which airs Open Forum hosted by Harold Camping. It was used to promote the Judgement Day (May 21).

After DZXQ went off the air on February 28, 2011, Nar Pineda and some of the Powerhouse Broadcasters joined the station. In 2010, Tita Swarding and Lady Camille were also joined from relative station DWBL aside from Tita Swarding's Sunday showbiz program Showbiz Balita (OoolaChika!) on DZRH.

Profile

Since the demise of DZXQ, it is the current home of Powerhouse Broadcasters[1]. It has taglines such as Love songs at its best & Yesterday's hits, Today's classic. It broadcasts daily from 5:30am to 10:00pm.
